Healing Into Wholeness

By Dr. Christine Page

As a true Gemini, I have a natural inquiring mind and was one of those children who annoyed my teachers by always asking the question, “Why?”

An intuitive from birth, I can easily read other peoples’ energy and often sensed in these teachers frustration tinged with anxiety, as they inwardly acknowledged they knew how to deliver information but couldn’t explain how they reached that conclusion. In truth, I didn’t want to make them uncomfortable; I just wanted to explore the myriad of possibilities behind the answer.

Thankfully, my parents encouraged curiosity introducing me to many different experts in the fields of healing and metaphysics, always reminding me to listen not only with my head but to the wisdom of my heart.

Fast forward to the early 1980s and I’m working as a doctor in a busy general practice in Essex, England, seeing up to 40 patients a day. Trained in those days, to actually listen to the patient, I started to recognize patterns in how individuals described events leading up to their particular illness, paying special attention to stories that were emotionally charged. Having been taught to listen to recurring intuitive messages, my intuition lit up as I saw the strong correlation between specific illnesses and the psycho-spiritual state of the individual.

At the same time, I was beginning to see life as less of a linear path and more of a cycle where we are like flowers with our soul in the center and the petals, our various sub-personalities. As the highly evolved souls that we are, we create events in our life to know and express ourselves in our spiritual wholeness: to open our petals fully. Viewed this way, I see the different events in our life, including illness, as an urging from our soul to leave a particular petal and enter another so we may experience new aspects of our inner being. Hence Illness is a messenger from the soul, offering loving guidance to encourage change.

Embracing this awareness, I started to ask the question: What was going on in your life when you became sick? and was amazed how often I received the following reply from people who were not particularly self-reflective: I know why I have cancer or why I had a heart attack.

My immediate thought was this: If you know the underlying cause of your illness, why are we healthcare practitioners not paying attention to your insights, preferring to rely on laboratory results that have little to do with your emotional, mental, and soul journey. Frustrated by a narrow view of health, in 1992 I wrote Frontiers of Health, linking the chakra system to health, illness, and the soul’s message. I believe the body is the most faithful friend to the soul, willing to take on illness to initiate movement away from an unhealthy path. Even illness in children is an opportunity for change, although it commonly affects the family not just the individual.

Here are a few of my findings, remembering the soul loves us and that illness is not so much a problem but more of a soul-ution.

Base Chakra: linked to security, this energy center reveals the challenge to fit into cultural or tribal norms. Common illnesses in this area & helpful messages include:

a) High blood pressure: difficulty in relaxing due to a perceived need to follow the tribal rules. Learning to relax and feel secure in being a unique individual starts to bring healing.

b) Arthritis of hips: fear of stepping out of line. Learning to have the courage to step onto our own path is the soul’s message.

Sacral Chakra: linked to healthy relationships where each is respected and supported without the need for dependency

a) Lower back pain: feeling unsupported by others. Learning to trust people and let them in to help us begins the healing.

b) Fibroids (benign tumors of the womb): Frustration and sadness that our needs are not heard even though we take care of everyone else. Learning to make time and space for our needs.

Solar plexus: linked to self-confidence; unaffected by judgment or approval

a) Diabetes: unable to enjoy the sweetness of life. Learning to let love in and know we are lovable and perfect just as we are.

b) Gallbladder disease: frustration linked to indecision when faced with pleasing others or speaking our truth. Learning to be true to ourselves without the fear of conflict or criticism.

Heart Chakra: linked to self-love and a deep intuitive connection to the soul.

a) Heart disease: narrowing of the blood vessels mirrors the reduction of joy in our life. Heart disease teaches us to make time for enjoyment, unburdening ourselves of unhealthy duties.

b) Cancer: 85% of cancer patients are pleasers, rarely losing their temper or putting their needs first. Cancer offers the opportunity to say ‘No’ and to love ourselves.

Throat Chakra: linked to change and self-expression

a) Underactive thyroid; fear of change. Healing comes when we see the new situation as more pleasurable than where we are at present.

b) Tinnitus: ‘the bells are ringing’ but nothing’s changing, reminding us to trust our intuitive guidance (not our mind) and taking the risk to change.

Third Eye: linked to wisdom, clarity and clear-sightedness

a) Migraine: associated with anxiety and over-responsibility. Learning to step back and be selective as to what to respond to starts the healing.

b) Cataracts: decreased flexibility of thought. Opening ourselves to new ideas is the soul’s message.

Crown Chakra: linked to flowing with spiritual insights

a) Depression occurs when we feel dis-spirited; out of touch with spirit. Finding ways of lifting our spirits such as dancing, singing etc. helps us to reconnect

b) Parkinson’s disease is linked to disconnection from our own soul’s motivation. The soul encourages us to trust simple self-motivation which leads to ease of movement.

I share these findings as doorways into the world of illness arising from my innate curiosity to understand the message of disease. Have the courage to intuitively pass into the amazing home of your soul, moving from healing into wholeness.
